On the cold morning of May 24, 2012, as the sun slowly rose over the mountains of Kokstad, a new chapter of love and joy was about to unfold. It was a very snowy morning. The world outside was extremely cold, taps withholding water and yet, warmth loomed inside the hospital ward. That first cry pierced the stillness of the moment, melting the frost of our hearts and her presence bringing warmth and light that no winter could ever dim.
A beautiful young girl, the firstborn child to her parents and the first granddaughter – lovingly named Esona, meaning ‘the right one’ or ‘the chosen one’- a name that reflected the deep gratitude and love her parents felt upon welcoming her into their lives. She was the fulfillment of their prayers and a sign of great blessing from God. Her second name ‘Alakhe’ had us all envisaging and seeing through her, hope for wholistic growth for the greater family. From the moment she arrived, Esona brought immeasurable joy to her family, and everyone privileged to cross her path. A daughter, a sister, a friend, and an angel, embodying kindness and a spirit that touched so many lives in her brief but impactful journey.
